Donald Trump intensified attacks Wednesday on Hillary Clinton, saying her election would threaten to destroy the United States.

“The election of Hillary Clinton would lead, in my opinion, to the almost total destruction of our country as we know it,” the Republican presidential nominee told a massive crowd at a rally in Ocala, Florida.

The Trump campaign estimated the crowed size was 15,000 people.

The New York billionaire has shifted his attacks into overdrive as Mrs. Clinton, the Democratic nominee, has surged in the polls following a series of embarrassing revelations about Mr. Trump, including a 2005 video in which he makes lewd comments about women.

Mr. Trump hit Mrs. Clinton with a long list of revelations from her campaign officials’ email that was published by WikiLeaks, including campaign officials making disparaging remarks about Catholics and being tipped off by the Department of Justice about its investigation of her secret email setup as secretary of state.

“She would be the most dishonest and the most corrupt person ever elected to high office,” Mr. Trump said.

The morning after the vice-presidential debate, Cathy Frasca woke at 5 a.m. and hand-wrote a four-page letter to Donald Trump that said: “It is obvious that you could easily lose this election.”

The 89-year-old grandmother urged Trump to release his taxes, ignore the controversies that Hillary Clinton tries to start, stop tweeting at 3 a.m. and remember that “Bill Clinton is not running for election, so please avoid using precious time to discuss his sex life.” Instead, Frasca wrote, Trump should tell voters about how he will improve the country.

“You know what to do but time is running out,” she wrote in closing. “My prayers are with you always.”
